We bring you special seasons greetings from the King's Village and wish you and your family a HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR! As we come close to the end of the year, we look back to all the good things that has happened and feel very grateful to God for a great year. We also wish to take this opportunity to thank you for all your kind support and encouragement during the year.
We cannot fully expressed in words how grateful we are for all the kindness you have shown to us. We are greatly encouraged by the progress of the work here and we know we would not have come this far without your prayers and support and wish to say thank you.
WE PRAY THAT THIS CHRISTMAS WILL BE A BEAUTIFUL SEASON
FOR YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!
Remembering the special blessing of the birth of the Son of God, we thought this is also a great time to bring you some update on the special project of the construction of a maternity block to help mothers and babies and the progress made so far. We would greatly appreciate if you will please like to share this with your family and friends in case any of them will like to make part of their Christmas gifts as a donation "The King's Village," this Christmas season.
Your Donation will go towards the new KMC Maternity Unit.
Although the maternity ward at the King’s Medical Centre is successful in what they do, the space in which they perform their work is so limited. It consists of just three small rooms, made of one consultation room, one small delivery room and one post delivery recovery room with only two beds. If surgeries are needed during delivery, the mothers have to be be taken to the general theatre where they compete with medical emergencies and those who have delivered have to stay in the same ward with other medical cases.
It’s amazing to see how well the staff and midwives perform their duties within that limited space. In 2015, the King’s Medical Centre ended the year with a zero maternal mortality after 750 deliveries. This was considered a major success considering the country as a whole has a mortality rate of 319 out of every 100,000 deliveries (9.02 per 100,000 in the UK).
THE DIFFERENCE IT WILL MAKE
We are enthusiastic about the progress of the construction project and the difference it will make to the delivery of quality maternal and infant care as compared to what we have presently. Currently close to 90 babies a month are delivered at the King's Medical Centre. Once the building is completed, it will offer the best maternal and child healthcare in the region next only to the Tamale Teaching Hospital in terms of facility and quality of service. It will have its own Pharmacy, Laboratory, Theatre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and at least six delivery suits in addition to the large labour and recovery wards.
REVIEWED BUDGET AND THE NEXT STAGE OF THE PROJECT
The entire project is estimated to cost US $750,000. The estimated cost of construction is US $385,121 and the additional amount is needed to equip and run the project for at least a year before we get the government to provide long term support through provision of staff salaries.
Out of the amount needed for the construction, a total of US $151,400.00 has been raised from your kind, generous donations to us over the last several years and other individual donors. The construction work started in 2015 and has been broken down into stages. The table below gives the reviewed cost and the estimate total amount needed to complete the maternity block.
We are presently at a critical stage where the roofing of the building is going on. The total cost of the roof is US $83,000 and US $31,286 has been raised so far. This has enabled us to complete the trusses for the roof. We need an additional US $52,047 to finish the roof. Once we finish the roof, we will need to raise more funds to complete the building and make it functional with time.
Presently we need to raise additional funds to complete the roof and subsequently raise more to finish the entire project as per the budget above. We will appreciate if you could please join our campaign to help make this possible by praying with us, and to speak to friends and colleagues who may be interested to help us by making a special Christmas donation to your favourite Charity.
