The King's Village was born from a very small beginning through the humble work of Ben and Marion Owusu-Sekyere, missionaries with the World Ministries, Assemblies of God, United Kingdom. They met on a short term mission trip to Northern Ghana in August 1996. They were drawn together by their vision, heart and zeal to serve God on the mission field. Two years later in December 1998 they got married and in February 1999 went to work full time in Northern Ghana as missionaries and to follow the dream of their heart to serve God together with their lives with the blessings of their respective churches, Living Waters Chapel, Kumasi and the Christian Centre, Nottingham respectively.
They lived and served in and around Tamale until God directed them to move to a more needy area of Bontanga in the Tolon-Kumbungu District of Northern Region of Ghana surrounded by over 230 very needy communities. In this location they rented and renovated a Bungalow to live in which became their home, a chapel and office and a place to welcome and host many short term mission teams and partners from around the world. It was in this house that God gave them the vision to establish the King's Village in response to the many needs of the people they were called to serve in Northern Ghana.
They were visited by various ministers and elders from the Christian Centre who encouraged them and later invested in the work donating the first major gift which was used to acquire a 43 acre land next to where they lived and to build a school to educate children in the area as the first project. The church has continued their support of the project. They raise support every year and organse child sponsorship program through their Social Action Charity known as 58i which has grown over the years to support the school. Today the School has developed to Junior High School level with over 385 pupils.
As professional people called into ministry, we continued to use our profession and experiences to serve the Lord in many ways as administrators, teachers, accountants, etc all rolled onto the service of others. We encouraged other people to use their expertise to serve God and we were later joined by other professionals including the first ever full time doctor in the District, Dr. Felicia Amoo-Sakyi and her husband Mr. Derek Amoo-Sakyi who is also a skilled printer and designer.
The King's Village now has over 120 members of staff in addition many voulunteers including three doctors, a phamacist, nurses, builders among others all bringing their skills to support the vision.
